Associate in Applied Science
Diagnostic medical sonographers cardiovascular technologists and technicians operate special equipment to create images and conduct tests. They work closely with physicians and surgeons who view the photos and test results to assess and diagnose medical conditions. Upon successfully completing the program, students are eligible to obtain licensure in the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
Sonographers can choose to work in clinics, hospitals, private practice physician offices, public health facilities, laboratories, and other medical settings performing examinations in their areas of specialization. Career advancement opportunities exist in education, administration, research, and in commercial companies as education/application specialists, sales representatives, and technical advisors.
