“Weight lifting, at my age, are you crazy!? Is it even safe?” This is many people’s initial reaction when being told that they should consider starting a strength training program for their health and fitness. The truth of the matter is, if you are over 40 years old, and are wanting to improve your overall fitness and maintain mobility as you age, strength training is THE most important thing you can do to ensure health in your later years.

Sarcopenia is defined as the degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass, quality, and function that is associated with aging. With an increasing population of aging individuals, we have more people than ever who are falling victim to the degenerative effects of aging. Don’t just stand idly by and let the effects of aging slowly take you away from the activities you love. Start fighting back against the effects of aging TODAY by beginning a simple, safe, and effective strength training plan that can be modified to fit any individual needs and limitations you may have.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from SIU and am currently earning my master’s degree in the same field. My focus is on applying many of the basic principles of strength training to a different demographic…not just the athletes, but any aging adult. I specialize in modifying basic human movement patterns to older individuals who have compromised function in one or all of the major areas of the body. My programs are designed to increase strength, balance, and coordination throughout the entire body and will allow you to perform daily or leisure activities with less pain, less effort, and most importantly will allow you to maintain your independence to enjoy your better years! There is no better time to start than NOW!

Qualifications: B.S. in Exercise Science, Certified Personal Trainer

I’ve been instructing group fitness classes and personal training for over 20 years. During that time, I’ve helped many different people from different backgrounds learn how to become healthier and hopefully happier people. Helping people achieve their goals and grow more confident with themselves is what drives me to keep learning and bettering my practice. In my free time, I enjoy bicycling, hiking, playing golf, camping, and spending time with my four children and husband. If you are interested in working toward better health, feel free to make an appointment with me.

I was never athletic or played sports growing up and was not surrounded by anyone physically active. My years in the military showed me the value of making good life choices, given that my job depended on maintaining good overall health. After leaving the military, I moved to Southern Illinois to attend SIUC and completed degrees in both Exercise Science and Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

My focus is on functional exercise and I like to center workouts around exercises that translate to activities of daily living (ADL). I have also taught small group fitness classes structured around functional movements and cross-training.

For the past 5 years, I have been pursuing my own training goals and learning more about health & fitness along the way. I have competed in bodybuilding and won several titles. I am very energetic and love the fitness industry. I work hard to help my clients and want them to be successful in all aspects of their life not just health & fitness. My top two priorities as a personal trainer are my client’s safety and goals. As your personal trainer, I can be not only your coach, but also your friend as you navigate your own fitness journey. I can help you increase your mobility, strength, and endurance.

I grew up as an athletic kid. I had so much love for sports and felt like my teammates were my chosen family. I felt a little lost when sports ended after high school, but then I found a new passion and community in the gym. Working out was a new and exciting way to keep using my athletic abilities. In my fitness journey, I have helped many friends and family members reach fitness goals they never thought they would achieve and ultimately helped them create healthier lives. I decided to become a personal trainer as a way to combine my two favorite things: fitness and helping people. My primary goal as a personal trainer is to help as many people I can live happier, healthier lives.
