Graduation Information

Commencement Ceremony is Friday, May 17, 2024 at the John A. Logan campus.

Students receiving an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Engineering Science, and/or Associate in Fine Arts degree will attend the ceremony held at 5:00PM.

Students receiving an Associate in Applied Science degree and/or Certificate of Achievement will attend the ceremony held at 7:30PM.

All events are expected to last up to an hour in length.

In order to graduate students must:

  1. Complete all degree requirements
  2. Earn a final cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0
  3. Complete the mandatory Graduation Survey and submit the Graduation Application by clicking on the following link: Graduation Survey and Application
  4. Complete at least twelve (12) credit hours in residence at John A. Logan College for an Associate Degree and six (6) credit hours for a Certificate.

Quick Guide to Graduation

John A. Logan College will hold the Fifty-Fifth Commencement on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Donald L. Brewer Gymnasium and Convocation Center on the John A. Logan College Campus in Carterville.

Due to limited seating, the College will hold two ceremonies. The Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Engineering Science, and Associate in Fine Arts degrees ceremony will be held at 5:00 p.m. The Associate in Applied Science and certificate ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. Seating is based on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additional seating with a live video stream will be available in the O’Neil Auditorium.

Doors will open for the 5:00 p.m. ceremony at 4:00 p.m. After the first ceremony, the Gymnasium will be cleared, and doors will reopen at 6:45 p.m. Students graduating should report to F 119 in the Conference Center no later than 4:15 p.m. for the 5:00 p.m. ceremony and 6:45 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. ceremony.

Award-winning Nashville, TN-based realtor Nichole Holmes will be recognized as the distinguished alumnus. In addition to her career in real estate, Holmes is an accomplished model, actress, and host of the Netflix show Marriage or Mortgage.

Rev. Dr. Sarah Wank, Lead Pastor at Marion Aldersgate, will deliver the invocation and benediction.

Chay-Chen Hartman will be the student speaker at the 5:00 p.m. ceremony, and Betty Adams will be the student speaker at the 7:30 PM ceremony. Dr. Heather Hampson has been selected as the Faculty of the Year, and Cornelius Fair as the Adjunct Faculty of the Year. Both will be recognized at the graduation ceremonies.

The John A. Logan College Nursing Department will hold the Nurse Pinning Ceremonies on Thursday, May 16, in the Donald L. Brewer Gymnasium and Convocation Center. The LPN ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. and the ADN ceremony at 4:30 p.m. 

Mary Logan High School’s Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the O’Neil Auditorium. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.

Students can contact the JALC General Store regarding cap and gown pick-up at 618-985-2828, ext. 8127. The General Store adjacent to the cafeteria will be open before and after the graduation ceremonies for individuals wishing to purchase JALC memorabilia. All ceremonies will be live-streamed on the College’s official Facebook and YouTube pages. Links to all official social media accounts can be found at www.jalc.edu.

Graduates: Enter through West Main Entrance and proceed to F Conference Center.

Attendees: Enter through West Main Entrance and proceed to Gym.


Students should apply for graduation the semester prior to completing all required coursework for the degree. The College awards degrees each semester, however, there is only one graduation ceremony held each year at the end of the spring semester. Students must apply by Thursday, March 28th, 2024 to participate and walk in the commencement ceremony and have their names displayed in the ceremony program. Even if you do not intend to participate in commencement, you must complete the Gradation Application in order to have the degree(s) awarded and noted on the official transcript.

To order your graduation regalia, go to Balfour Build-A-Grad. Cap, gown, and tassel will cost $17.00. Students have the option to ship to campus for free or ship to home for $12.95. If students choose ship to campus, the campus General Store will notify students of a pick-up date. The deadline to order your graduation regalia is March 29th, 2024. Students may decorate graduation caps for the commencement ceremony. Please check your student Volmail for regalia details and other graduation updates.

John A. Logan College Graduates

John A. Logan College partners with Parchment to offer a free digital and print diploma after graduation.

To claim your digital diploma, graduates will receive an email and text notification with instructions on how to claim your credential(s). Your digital diploma will always be accessible through your Parchment account at no cost to you!

Follow these simple steps:

  • Check your Volmail and text messages for the award notification.
  • Follow the link to set up your Parchment digital credentials account. If you have ordered a transcript from Parchment, you will log in with the same credentials used previously to place your transcript order.  
  • Share your digital diploma on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter and use #jalcgrad or download a secure .pdf version.
  • Update your email address on Parchment from your Volmail to a personal email. This will allow you to access your credential(s) after your Volmail is deactivated. See “How to Change your Email/Merge Accounts on Parchment” tutorial video.

A print diploma will be mailed to you within 6-8 weeks after the conferred date of graduation. When claiming your credential, Parchment will ask you to verify your mailing address. If you fail to update your mailing address within 72 hours of your diploma notification message, you must call Admissions and Records to update your address on file. If a student needs an additional print diploma, additional or replacement copies cost $20 and should be ordered through Parchment.
