Essential Tasks for New Students

Your Login Information

Once you have been admitted to the College, temporary login information is sent to the email address listed on your college application.

Once you register for classes, your Volmail email address, Username/Student ID & Password are sent to that same personal email. This will get you into all of the services listed below within 24 hours.

Emails are sent from HelpDesk@jalc.edu. Remember to check Junk Mail if you do not see that email (enter “from: jalc“ in the search box).

  1. Click Here to Change Your Password
    You can use the green button if you know your current password, or the red button if you don’t. (This will only work once you’ve registered for classes).
  2. Log Into MyJALC (my.jalc.edu)
    Click the link above, and enter your Student ID Number in the box near the top right hand corner. Then click “Continue.” In MyJALC, you can:
    • View your schedule: Students tab > My Course Schedule.
    • Register, add, or drop classes: Students tab > Registration.
    • View your bursar bill: Students tab > Student Accounts.
    • See your grades: Students tab > My Grade Report.
  3. Log Into Volmail (volmail.jalc.edu)
    In order to be successful at the College you must check your Volmail, as this is the way your instructors will contact you. Click the following link to learn about the easiest way to check your Volmail.
  4. Click Here to Create a JALCAlert Account
    You will need to create a JALCAlert account to get emergency and campus closure text alerts on your cell phone. This is a service that you’ll have to opt in to, as these accounts are not created automatically.
  5. Log Into Desire2Learn
    Many courses require you to use Desire2Learn (D2L), the college’s distance learning platform. If you’re registered for any online or hybrid classes, they will appear in D2L at the beginning of each semester (some courses might not appear in D2L until the first day of classes).
  6. Click Here to Find Syllabi for Your Classes
    A syllabus provides important information about a course, such as which books are required and how students will be graded (some syllabi may not get posted until the first day of classes).
  7. Log Into OneDrive
    John A. Logan students get a full Terabyte (1,024 GB) of cloud storage on OneDrive. With OneDrive you can ditch your thumb drive and store your coursework in the cloud.
  8. Install Microsoft Office for Free!
    John A. Logan Students can install Microsoft Office on up to 5 computers (Windows or Mac) for FREE! You can also install Microsoft Office on your phone or tablet for free from your device’s app store.
  9. Click Here to Print Documents for Free!
    John A Logan students can print for free, from any computer, tablet, or smart phone. Submit Print Requests anytime, day or night. Pick up print jobs in Room C115, Monday-Friday. You can also print for free to the library copier, from any library computer.
  10. Log Into the Wireless Network
    Connect to “LoganLive! Student Wireless” using your Username/Student ID and Password. Make sure “Connect automatically” is checked.
