Request for Public Records

Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

Please be specific to ensure that a thorough search of University records can occur. Include dates, titles, file designations or other pertinent information.

Type of Request

It is a violation of the Freedom of Information Act for a person to knowingly obtain a public record for a commercial purpose without disclosing that it is for a commercial purpose, if requested to do so by the public body. 5 ILCS 140/3.1(c)).

The FOIA Officer will respond within five (5) business days [(21) business days for commercial] from receipt by providing access, denying the request or issuing an extension of an additional five (5) business days.

UNDER PROVISIONS OF THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, SOME COLLEGE RECORDS MAY BE EXEMPT FROM INSPECTION OR COPYING.

The first 50 pages of black and white, letter, or legal-sized copies required to complete the FOIA request are free. The following additional fees will be charged, and you will be required to pay the fees prior to the processing of your request:

Page 51 and up will be charged 15 cents per page.

Any CDs, disks, or specialized drives required for copying electronic files will be charged at cost.

Any large-sized documents that require specialized copying equipment, such as blueprints, etc., will be charged at cost.

Requester Information

FOIA requests can be made anonymously. However, JALC will need an email or physical address to deliver the requested information.
