Grant Accountant

Description:

The Grant Accountant applies accounting principals and practices to a range of accounting, budgeting, and/or other fiscal functions for grants and other restricted sources of funds, as well as provides assistance in some College-level accounting. They perform regulatory compliance duties in accordance with current federal and state grant and other guidelines and work under the supervision of the Associate Controller.

Education & Experience Requirements
Education required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
Experience: One year of accounting experience
Experience preferred: Certified Public Accountant license, accounting or auditing experience specific to grants

Essential Functions & Position Duties

  • Prepare grant expenditure reports and other financial grant reporting
  • Assist with the development of grant budgets and modifications and review for compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Communicate with outside grant agencies and internal grant stakeholders
  • Track revenue and expenses for grants and other restricted funds
  • Maintain the Restricted Purposes Fund budgets within the ERP, including budgets for all grants and restricted funds
  • Monitor and analyze grant spending compared to approved budgets and work with grant contacts to ensure timely and compliant spending of grant funds
  • Prepare journal entries and assist in monthly and year-end closeout of College accounting records. Prepare audit workpapers for the external auditors as assigned.
  • Participate in the day-to-day Business Office operations and support accounting functions.
  • Prepare reconciliations for general ledger accounts and bank statements
  • Participates in budget planning meetings with the Associate Controller for grants and the overall College budget
  • Assist with 1099 preparation
  • Serve on College committees as assigned

Non-essential Duties & Functions

  • Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.

Salary range starts at: $40,000
