JALC to Offer Special Saturday Sign-up and Welcome Week Activities

Published on August 10, 2022

The fall semester at John A. Logan College is set to begin on Wednesday, August 17. Registration is currently underway, and late walk-in registration starts on August 15. The College will offer a Saturday Sign-up on August 13 from 9 AM to Noon. The event is designed to help working adults and individuals that cannot visit the campus during regular business hours. Although walk-ins are welcome, Individuals interested in the Saturday Sign-up can register at www.jalc.edu.

“We are excited to offer the Saturday Sign-up event again. We offered this last year, and it was a great success,” said Assistant Provost for Student Affairs Christy Stewart. “We know life can get in the way, so we designed this day to help people with their schedules, financial aid, books, and scholarship information.”

Stewart added that individuals planning to attend could expedite the process by completing the application for admission at www.jalc.edu and completing the online FAFSA form before Saturday.

In addition to the Saturday Sign-up, the College is offering a Fall Kick-Off Day. The event is designed for students who feel overwhelmed or excited about starting college. Organizers encourage students to take this extra day before the semester begins and prepare ahead of time. On Tuesday, August 16, from 10 AM-12 PM, the Student Life office will serve brunch in the courtyard, host a meet and greet with faculty/staff, and host a welcome panel with current students, faculty and staff.

“We know the first day of classes can be overwhelming to new students, so we have set up an event to help them get acclimated to campus and meet faculty and staff,’ said Manager of Student Life and Recruitment, April Martinez. “Learners can come out and find their classes, talk to staff, get free food and hopefully lessen the stress of the first week of classes.”

On Wednesday, August 17, College Administrators will serve hotdogs to students in the Waterfall Courtyard by the cafeteria from 11 AM to 1 PM. Outdoor games and music will also be provided. On Thursday, August 18, the Athletic Department will serve Pizza in the Waterfall Courtyard from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. At 2 PM, administrators will serve ice cream donated by Prairie Farms from 2 PM to 3 PM. In addition to ice cream, outdoor games, disc golf and music will be provided. On Friday, August 19, Welcome Week will conclude with Popsicles and Popcorn sponsored by the Scheduling Office and Public Relations with live music and games.
