Teaching and Learning Center (TLC)

Integrity Advocate is a tool built into D2L that helps ensure online exams are fair and secure. It verifies your identity, checks your testing environment, and monitors your exam session to maintain academic integrity. This process helps students have a fair testing experience while keeping the technology simple and straightforward to use.

How It Works – Student Experience

1. Student launches the exam/quiz from their D2L course.
2. System requests access to camera and microphone.
3. Student completes ID verification and environment scan.
4. Integrity Advocate monitors during the exam.
5. Student submits exam as normal.

What You’ll Need

• Webcam & microphone (built-in or external)
• Valid photo ID (student ID, driver’s license, or government-issued)
• Laptop or desktop computer 
• Stable internet connection
• Quiet space without interruptions

Before Your Exam

• Place your ID nearby for verification
• Clear your workspace of notes, phones, or other distractions
• Test your setup using the Demo 

Demo Practice 

Integrity Advocate provides a demo that may be completed as many times as needed to ensure you are prepared to complete your exam/quiz using Integrity Advocate.

Why You Should Complete the Demo

The demo is not graded. Its purpose is to help you test your technology before a real exam. By completing it, you will:

• Confirm your computer, webcam, microphone, and internet are working correctly
• Practice the ID check and environment scan so you know what to expect
• Fix any technical issues early with plenty of time before the actual exam
• Reduce stress and avoid last-minute surprises on exam day
