Recharge – Debt Relief Program

Recharge is designed to help you return to college and move forward. As you successfully complete classes, you can reduce your past-due tuition balance.

For every course you complete with a grade of C or higher, the in-district tuition cost for those credit hours will be applied to your existing balance – up to a maximum of $2,000 in total balance forgiveness.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Have not attended JALC for three or more years
  • Plan to enroll in a certificate or degree program upon your return to JALC
  • Have a plan to pay for your upcoming semester
  • Have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and JALC Foundation scholarship application on file

Students who do not meet these eligibility criteria may still enroll in the past-due payment plan. This option allows you to pay down your outstanding balance over time and regain eligibility to register for classes once the balance is paid.

  • Complete a Recharge application to notify the college of your interest in registering for new courses. Students must apply for debt forgiveness by the 10th calendar day of the semester to use the current semester’s credit hours towards forgiveness of a prior semester’s debt.
  • If approved, enroll in classes and ensure financial arrangements are in place for the new courses.
  • After you earn a C or higher in a course, the current in-district tuition rate for those credit hours will be applied to your past-due balance.
  • Continue earning down your balance until you reach the $2,000 program maximum or the time limit of four semesters of continuous enrollment, whichever occurs first.
  • Students are still responsible for paying outstanding charges for fees, textbooks, or other costs.
  • The four semesters of eligibility must be completed consecutively. Once you begin the program, any semester in which you are not enrolled will count toward the four-semester limit (summers are not required).
  • Students may participate in the Recharge program only once. If you experience an unforeseen circumstance beyond your control, you may request an exception by submitting a Student Affairs appeal.

Students are responsible for covering the cost of their upcoming classes through one or more of the following methods:

  • Federal and state grants through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Scholarships
  • Payment plans
    • Log in to MyJALC by entering your student ID and password
    • Click on “Pay Bill/Payment Plan/Account Balance” from the home screen under My Billing
    • Select sign up for a payment plan
  • Other payment options from third parties or self-pay

Payment arrangements must be in place before the end of the registration period for that term.
