The Associate in General Studies is a two-year degree designed to offer a broad education across a variety of subjects. Students typically complete a combination of general education and career and technical education courses. Often referred to as our “catch-all” degree, it accommodates a wide range of coursework. However, this degree is not intended for students planning to transfer to a university, as it does not fulfill the General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) requirements, and career and technical education courses may not be transferable.
Students preparing to apply for a restricted allied health program—such as Practical Nursing, Adult Cardiac Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Laboratory Technology, Surgical Technology, or Medical Assisting—may declare AGS as their major while completing prerequisite courses and awaiting acceptance. For more information about restricted allied health programs, please see Restricted Allied Health Admission.
