John A. Logan College to Seek Community Input on Facilities Master Plan

Published on March 4, 2026

John A. Logan College officials are inviting students, employees, alumni, and community members to help shape the future of the campus by providing input on a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan.

The plan outlines a shared vision for the continued growth, care, and evolution of the John A. Logan College campus and reflects the College’s commitment to creating environments that inspire learning, foster opportunity, and strengthen connections with the communities it serves.

As the College approaches its 60th anniversary in 2027 and begins planning for its 70th anniversary in 2037, administrators say the Facilities Master Plan will help guide thoughtful, long-term decisions about how campus spaces support teaching, learning, and community engagement.

“John A. Logan College has always been a place where opportunity begins,” said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, President of John A. Logan College. “As we approach our 60th anniversary, it is important that we pause to consider how our campus can continue to serve students and the region for decades to come. This Facilities Master Plan allows us to think strategically about how our physical spaces support innovation, collaboration, and student success.”

Recent campus investments have already begun reshaping the College’s learning environment. Enhancements to the West Lobby—soon to be known as Logan Hall—and the development of a new Career and Technical Education Center represent major steps toward creating modern, accessible, and student-centered learning spaces.

“These projects are more than construction projects,” Overstreet said. “They reflect our confidence in the future of John A. Logan College and the communities we serve. By investing in our facilities, we are investing in the students, workforce, and economic vitality of Southern Illinois.”

The Facilities Master Plan will serve as a roadmap for aligning the College’s physical spaces with academic excellence, evolving instructional approaches, workforce needs, and community aspirations. The planning process emphasizes flexibility, sustainability, and thoughtful stewardship to ensure the campus remains welcoming and adaptable for years to come.

College officials say community participation will be essential to the planning process.

“Our campus belongs not only to our students and employees, but to the entire region,” Overstreet said. “We want to hear from the people we serve. Their input will help ensure that the future of John A. Logan College reflects the needs, ideas, and aspirations of southern Illinois.”

Community members can share their feedback through an online Facilities Master Plan survey at www.jalc.edu/facilities-master-plan. The survey will help guide long-term planning and future campus improvements.

Members of the Facilities Master Planning Team will also be available to assist individuals in completing the survey on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the John A. Logan College Library. Due to ongoing construction on campus, visitors should enter through the East Entrance.

Through intentional planning and strategic investment, John A. Logan College leaders say the institution will continue serving as a cornerstone of education, opportunity, and community life in southern Illinois well into the future.
