John A. Logan College welcomed more than 350 high school sophomores to its Carterville campus this week as part of its ongoing Sophomore Day initiative, which aims to help students begin thinking about their future college plans.
Students from across the college district participated in a full day of activities to introduce them to the college experience. The event featured information sessions on dual credit opportunities, financial aid resources, and hands-on experiences in several of the College’s career and technical education programs.
“The next couple of years will go fast for these students,” said April Martinez, Director of Enrollment Management at JALC. “We designed this day to not only show these students all we have to offer but also to prepare them for the process of going to college.”
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with instructors and College staff, ask questions about programs of interest, and explore pathways that can lead directly to in-demand careers or four-year universities.
This is the second Sophomore Day hosted by JALC this month, part of its commitment to early college readiness and community outreach.
