No Classes or Business Operations on Monday, April 8, at JALC; Parking Lots Will Be Open For Eclipse Viewing

Published on April 4, 2024

John A. Logan College officials have suspended operations and canceled classes on Monday, April 8, due to the Solar Eclipse. The College’s parking lots will be open to the public at no charge to view the Eclipse. Restroom facilities next to the Baseball and Softball fields will also be open to the public. Logan Fitness will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and reopen from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“The College will be a prime viewing location for the Eclipse, and we wanted the public to be able to utilize our parking lots for viewing,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “We will also open the restroom between the baseball and softball fields. We only ask that you treat the campus like a national park and pack out what you pack in.”

The partial eclipse is expected to start around 12:42 p.m. The total eclipse is scheduled to begin around 1:59 p.m. Heavy traffic is expected in southern Illinois before and after the Eclipse.

“We have two entrances to campus. The Greenbrier Road entrance is located on the west side of campus, and a second entrance is on the frontage road directly off Rt. 13 on the east side of campus,” stated Overstreet. “We are glad to be able to assist the public in viewing this truly unique occasion.”
