JALC Announces Fall Welcome Week Activities

Published on July 27, 2023

Fall semester classes will begin on Wednesday, August 16, at John A. Logan College. Advisement appointments will continue through Friday, August 4, with Walk-In Registration beginning on Monday, August 7. Walk-ins are available Monday, August 7 through August 10 from 8 AM to 6 PM; Friday, August 11 from 8 AM to 4:30 PM; Tuesday, August 15 through 17 from 8 AM to 6 PM; and Friday, August 18, Monday, August 21, and Tuesday, August 22, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Please note that Walk-In Registration will not begin until 11 AM on Monday, August 14, due to an on-campus meeting.

Additionally, the College will host a special Saturday Sign-up event on August 12 from 9 AM to Noon. This marks the third year for the Saturday Sign-up event designed to help students who cannot make it to the College during normal business hours with an opportunity to register for class and meet with College staff.

“This has been a really successful event for us,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “The Saturday event gives students that cannot come to the College during the normal work week an opportunity to talk to our staff about our programs, register for classes, order books, and meet with our financial aid and scholarship staff.”

College staff have a full week planned to welcome new and returning students to campus the week of August 14. A Fall Kick-off event will be held on Tuesday, August 15, from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Waterfall Courtyard. Students feeling overwhelmed or excited about starting college can take this extra day before the semester starts to prepare beforehand. The event will feature free swag and a free lunch. Students can also meet with faculty and staff and participate in a faculty/student Q&A panel. In addition to the planned events, staff will help students find their classes, visit the new eCampus Bookstore Kiosk, make a student ID, ensure all logins are working properly, and get information about student clubs.

A cookout will be held in the Courtyard from 11 AM to 1 PM on Wednesday, August 16, with free hotdogs, chips, and soft drinks, and a Welcome Bash with Pizza and Ice cream will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM on Thursday, August 17.

According to Overstreet College, staff have planned events to help students have a great start to the semester.

“Our staff have done a tremendous job of putting together a week that gives students ample opportunities to connect with faculty and staff as well as fellow students,” said Overstreet. “We know that when students make these connections early in the semester, they are more successful.”
