Behind every future nurse is a story of compassion, sacrifice, and a desire to make a difference. During Nurses Week, we are proud to spotlight one of our own.

Pictured is part-time nursing student Camden Doss of Marion, a licensed LPN, up early on a Friday morning to head to work at Vienna Prison.

Camden is currently continuing his journey in the part-time ADN program at John A. Logan College.

He says his passion for nursing comes from wanting to “impact people for the better and bring joy to others,” and he credits JALC’s nursing faculty and staff for going above and beyond to support students every step of the way.

“They make every effort to go the extra mile in providing resources and their wisdom/insight into the future of our dreams, lives, and careers,” insisted Camden.

That strong foundation continues to lead to success both inside and outside the classroom. John A. Logan College’s Nursing Program reported a 100% PN licensure pass rate and a 98% ADN licensure pass rate in 2025, both exceeding state and national averages.

Camden says one thing that makes JALC’s Nursing Program special is the way students are taught to understand the “why” behind everything they do, helping prepare compassionate nurses who can better educate and care for their communities.

One experience Camden says he will never forget happened during a clinical rotation in the emergency room, where he assisted during a life-saving emergency response and prayed over a patient during CPR. He says both his faith and passion for helping others continue to guide him throughout his nursing journey.

After graduation in 2027, Camden hopes to continue working in correctional nursing and one day combine nursing with mission work to help others around the world.

We are proud to celebrate the compassion, dedication, and heart Camden, along with all of our nursing students, alumni, faculty, and staff, bring to the nursing profession and the future of healthcare. 💙🩺
