Professional Tutor / Advisor

Description:

The Professional Tutor/Advisor reports to the Director of Student Success. This position is responsible for providing academic support and guidance to students through tutoring services, mentorship, and advisement.

Education & Experience Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: One (1) year teaching or tutoring experience in related fields

Preferred Education: Master’s degree

Preferred Experience: Experience designing and conducting workshops; experience working with at-risk populations; knowledge of various learning strategies to accommodate learning differences

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring to both TRIO and non-TRIO students in the tutoring lab
  • Possibility of providing tutoring services to students on an adjusted schedule once a week
  • Assist with tutor training for peer tutors to meet CRLA certification requirements
  • Develop and conduct a variety of educational workshops
  • Provide academic advisement and mentoring services to TRIO SSS participants, including financial aid and transfer assistance
  • Monitor student progress toward attaining educational goals; ensure project participants connect with and utilize support from appropriate SSS staff and other resources
  • Assist in the identification and selection of eligible students
  • Maintain student records in compliance with grant requirements
  • Assist in data collection and program evaluation of TRIO SSS

Non-Essential Functions of the Position

Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John A. Logan College campus or designated location.

Hours: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday, evenings and weekends as needed

Salary range starts at: $40,000
