John A. Logan College officials announced that construction on the long-anticipated West Lobby expansion has begun earlier than originally scheduled. The College’s general contractor experienced an opening in its schedule, allowing work to begin immediately.
While the early start is expected to shorten the overall construction timeline and lead to an earlier completion date, it also creates temporary access challenges to several campus locations. A map identifying affected areas, entrances, and alternate routes is attached for reference.
“The earlier start is good news for the project’s long-term completion, but we recognize it will require short-term adjustments for students, employees, and visitors,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to improve and expand the College’s main entrance.”

The West Lobby expansion, partially funded by the Illinois Capital Development Board, is scheduled to last 548 calendar days and is expected to be completed by May 31, 2027.
John A. Logan College encourages all campus visitors to review the attached map and allow additional time when navigating the affected areas. Updates will be shared regularly as construction progresses.
