John A. Logan College marked a major milestone today with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new $14.2 million Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center. The cutting-edge facility will house the College’s Welding, HVAC, and Automotive programs, strengthening the region’s workforce development and technical training capacity.

A large crowd gathered for the event, which included members of the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees, administration, local elected officials, and community leaders. Their participation underscored the community’s strong support and shared vision for the future of career and technical education in southern Illinois.

“This is a proud day for John A. Logan College and for our entire region,” said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, President of John A. Logan College. “This new center will provide our students with the hands-on training they need to thrive in high-demand industries and help meet the workforce needs of our local employers.”

The 14.2-million-dollar project is being funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), with matching funds committed by the College.

Construction will begin immediately, with H.E. Mitchell Construction serving as the general contractor. The facility is expected to be completed by December 2026.

The new CTE Center will provide students access to modern equipment and industry-standard labs, preparing them for successful careers in skilled trades that are vital to the region’s economy.
