John A. Logan College to Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Career Technical Education Center

John A. Logan College will host a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on its new $14.1 million Career Technical Education (CTE) Center. The event will include remarks from College leadership and local elected officials.

The construction site is located on the north side of campus.
between the Vocational Education Building and Building H (Workforce Education and Construction Management).

In the event of rain the ceremony will move inside the H Building.

Details:
Funded in part by a $4.2 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, this transformative project represents a significant investment in southern Illinois’ future workforce. The new facility will feature a modern welding lab and classroom, as well as substantial upgrades to the Automotive, Auto Body, and HVAC programs, ensuring that students train with cutting-edge tools in real-world environments. Local contractor H.E. Mitchell will serve as the general contractor for the project, which is slated for completion in December 2026.

“This facility will completely transform and modernize our Career and Technical teaching and training abilities,” said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, President of John A. Logan College. “It will bring state-of-the-art tools and training opportunities, providing a well-trained and well-educated community and fostering new economic growth for our industry partners in southern Illinois.”
