Fall semester classes will begin on August 11 at John A. Logan College. Late walk-in registration will be available from August 4, with late-night availability until 6 p.m. on August 4 through August 7 and August 11 through August 1. The College will host a special Saturday Sign-up event on August 2 from 9 a.m. to Noon. This marks the fifth year of the Saturday Sign-up event, designed to provide students who cannot attend the College during regular business hours with an opportunity to register for classes and meet with college staff.
“This has been a really successful event for us, which continues to grow each year,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “The Saturday event gives students who cannot come to the College during the normal work week an opportunity to talk to our staff about our programs, register for classes, order books, and meet with our financial aid and scholarship staff.”
College staff have a full week planned to welcome new and returning students to campus. A Fall Kick-off event will be held on Friday, August 8, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in the Waterfall Courtyard. Students who feel overwhelmed or excited about starting college can take this extra day before the semester begins and use it to prepare beforehand. The event will feature free swag and a free lunch. Students can also meet with faculty and staff and participate in a faculty/student Q&A panel. In addition to the planned events, students can receive help finding their classes, visit the General Store, create a student ID, verify that all logins are working properly, and obtain information about student clubs.
A Welcome Cookout will be held in the Courtyard from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, featuring complimentary hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks. A Welcome Bash with Pizza and Ice cream will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12.
According to Overstreet College, staff have planned events to help students start the semester off on the right foot.
“Our staff has done a tremendous job of putting together a week that gives students ample opportunities to connect with faculty and staff as well as fellow students,” said Overstreet. “We know that when students make these connections early in the semester, they are more successful.”
