Urgent Update: Water Main Break Forces JALC to Close Main Campus and Postpone Poshard  Poetry Reading and GED Graduation

Published on June 25, 2025

Due to an unexpected water main break in the City of Carterville, John A. Logan College officials have announced that the main campus in Carterville will be suspending operations, effective at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25. The Dr. Glenn Poshard Poetry Reading and the GED Graduation Ceremony have been postponed to a later date. In addition to the main campus, Logan Fitness is closed, and 24/7 access is suspended until further notice.

The College is working closely with city officials to monitor the situation and will provide updates as information becomes available. A new date for both events will be announced in the coming days.

“We understand how important these events are to our community, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we navigate this unforeseen circumstance,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “Our top priority is the safety and comfort of our students, guests, and staff.”

Please continue to monitor the College’s website and official social media channels for further updates.
