Jason Tanner with award for National Business Education Association Post Secondary Teacher of the Year

John A. Logan College Business Professor Dr. Jason Tanner was recently named the National Business Education Association Post Secondary Teacher of the Year at the National Convention in Kansas City.  The award is based on the individual’s level of education, teaching content, student evaluations, service, and leadership.

Tanner is honored by the recognition and values the organization’s opportunities.

“I had outstanding professors at SIU that pushed the importance of belonging to national organizations,” said Tanner. “These organizations have been so important in helping me build rapport with colleagues across the state and the nation, and that is where you learn so much by having those conversations about new trends and teaching methods.”

Tanner is in his sixteenth year of full-time teaching at John A. Logan College, where he teaches Intro to Business and Business Communications. Before winning the national award, he was named the Illinois Business Education Association Post Secondary Teacher of the Year and served as president. He has also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Illinois Business Education Association; Illinois Business Education Association Outstanding New Professional Award; Illinois Business Education Association Outstanding Independent Research Award; North Central Business Education Association Outstanding Contributions to Business Education by a Postsecondary Business Teacher Award; Illinois Association for Career and Technical Education Postsecondary Teacher of the Year Award; Illinois Association for Career and Technical Education Outstanding New CTE Teacher Award; and the Southern Illinois Business Education Association Teacher of the Year Award.

John A. Logan College Provost Dr. Melanie Pecord is proud of Dr. Tanner and his student commitment.

“My background is in business education, and I know firsthand the effort and commitment Dr. Tanner puts into his courses,” said Pecord. “This award is well deserved, and I am pleased he is being honored for his commitment to his students and profession.”
