Sean East Becomes the Second JALC Men’s Basketball Player to be Named Player of the Year

Sean East has been named the 2021-22 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. The sophomore averaged 20.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists this season.

“Sean is an outstanding basketball player, but an even better person,” said head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “His work ethic is the best I have coached.”

East helped lead the Vols to a 29-4 overall record, a Region 24 Championship title, NJCAA Central District title, and a NJCAA DI Men’s Basketball Championship tournament berth.

“Congratulations to Sean and the Men’s Basketball program on their continued success,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet.

East is the second Vols player in the past three years to win the award. Following Jay Scrubb, the 2020 Player of the Year. East will continue his playing career at the University of Missouri next season.
