A new statewide report released by the Illinois Community College Board highlights the significant economic and social impact of John A. Logan College, underscoring the institution’s role in driving regional growth and student success.
It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and we’re celebrating the power of learning by doing.
At John A. Logan College, apprenticeships give students the chance to gain hands-on experience, earn while they learn, and build real pathways into high-demand careers through partnerships with local employers like Intertape Polymer Group and organizations like @mantracon_corporation.
Current apprentice Jason Ralston of Carterville knows the value first-hand. “You have problems that show up that won’t show up in class. There’s a lot of other things, variables, on a job site that are different than in class that you can’t control. So you learn a lot more.”
He also shared what the experience has meant beyond the job itself. "They really want to make sure I succeed," said Ralston. "It’s like a big family there.”
“IPG is proud to have Jason Ralston on our team,” said Glenn Edwards, CI Process Manager at IPG. “He is doing an excellent job applying his educational knowledge in electrical maintenance at IPG. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
Jason will graduate in May and plans to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale to become an Electrical Engineer.
Way to go, Jason!! We are proud of you! 👏

Take us back to last Wednesday ☀️💙
SpringFest 2026 was one for the books.
We had the best day with this Carterville High School crew on campus!
They are officially ready to join us at John A. Logan College after they graduate high school in May.
Congrats to Zaiden O`Herron, who was randomly selected to win a $500 JALC Foundation Scholarship!

“Because of John A. Logan College, I learned to help myself.” 💙
For our final Community College Month student spotlight, meet Omar Naser of Carbondale. JALC was a place he chose twice, first to begin his college journey, and later to return with a clearer goal and new purpose.
Now preparing to transfer to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Omar’s story is a reminder that growth can come from new direction, second chances, and believing in yourself.
