John A. Logan College officials have announced the launch of the new Logan Legacy Plaza, a permanent space honoring the people who have been part of the college community. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2026, at the John A. Logan College Conference Center.
Located just outside the Conference Center, the Legacy Plaza will feature the Logan Legacy Pathway, a lasting tribute to retirees, alumni, community members, faculty, staff, and friends of the college.
The pathway will include personalized engraved plaques available for purchase honoring the people, memories, and connections that have helped shape the John A. Logan College community.
For many years, the college honored retirees with plaques placed near trees throughout campus. As campus expansion and the loss or relocation of trees changed the landscape, college leaders began exploring alternatives to preserve those tributes.
“We want to honor those who have been a part of our story,” said JALC President Dr. Kirk Overstreet. “The location of the trees throughout campus made it difficult for retirees and their families to view the plaques. We decided that a plaza and pathway dedicated to those individuals was the best way to honor their legacy.”
The Nov. 2 ribbon-cutting ceremony will include brief remarks and a formal unveiling of the new Legacy Plaza. Retirees, alumni, community members, and friends of the college are encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
The Legacy Plaza is intended to provide a central location where members of the John A. Logan College community and their families can visit and reflect on the contributions and memories represented by the plaques and pavers. The John A. Logan College Foundation will provide information at the event for those interested in purchasing pavers to honor College individuals who have impacted their lives.
