John A. Logan College's Interpreter Preparation Program, a leader in online education since 1999.
We are taking applications now for our new online program. The program began fall of 2007. It is part-time to allow you to work while you take it. It will take two years, part-time. Apply for admissions online. (view the video on how to apply for admissions) After you fill out your application, send an e-mail to Paula Willig at paulawillig@jalc.edu so she can register you for your classes. To apply for this program you must already be interpreting in the school system, or have an associates degree or certificate in interpreting.
Registering for an Online Class:
If you are a returning student, You can register on-line for the courses by going to John A. Logan College's website. Those who live in Illinois taking on-line courses pay in district rates. If you haven't applied to John A. Logan College, you can apply for admission on-line. Also, please e-mail Paula Willig or Terry Crain so that they can make sure you are enrolled in the courses that you want to take. Be sure to specify which courses you want in your e-mail. Equipment Needed:- Recent Computer
- Current Web Browser
- Firefox/Mozilla (Firefox is the perferred browser and works with Windows and Mac)
- Explorer version 6 or better
- Safari
- Opera
- Netscape
- Access to High Speed Internet
- High speed internet necessary for uploading homework and downloading video clips
- You can use a school or library computer, but make sure that it is accessible to you the hours that you need it. It is best to have access at home.
- Free Plugins
- Webcam or Digital Video Camera
(with a microphone)

- Logitech® QuickCAM® pro 3000
- Kodak® DV325 Color Cam
- Creative Labs WebCam Pro
- A digital video camera that connects to your computer
- Software:
- A Movie Program such as one of the following:
- Windows Movie Maker, download free (should come on your system if you have Windows - if not, download the version for your system)
- for Mac - iMovie, comes with the system
- QuickTime Pro, $29.99 purchase online
- Audacity for creating audio files and saving them as MP3's, download free and the Lame Encoder, available at the same site.
- A word processing program that can save in Rich Text Format
- A Movie Program such as one of the following:
Before classes start:
You will receive a welcome packet with information about how to navigate the classes, how to record video clips for the web, how to upload the video into your online class, CD's or DVD's with video clips for your classes, and other online helps. After you register for your courses, you will have to enroll in Blackboard to access your course. Watch this movie to show how to get into Blackboard.
