January 16, 2019
The John A. Logan basketball team has been ranked third in the nation in the latest NJCAA coaches poll. Logan, 15-1, was ranked fifth last week and continues to move up. Two weeks ago, the Volunteers were ranked eighth.
The ranking is the highest ever for the Vols who play at Rend Lake on Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. "The bulls eye on our back just continues to get bigger," said Logan coach Kyle Smithpeters. "Our players are working hard and will hopefully be ready for the challenge that the ranking presents."
South Plains (Texas), 15-1, is ranked first in the nation with Florida SouthWestern State, 18-1, in second place. Vincennes, 15-1, is the only team to beat Logan and dropped out of the top spot after losing to Olney, 15-1, and ranked 22nd. Logan's next home game will be on Wednesday, Jan. 23 against Olney.
"Our district is very strong with three teams in the top 22," Smithpeters said. "It is going to be an exciting ride."
