CARTERVILLE — John A. Logan College hosted the Southern Business Journal’s Business Leaders Breakfast today where attendees heard from a lead economist from the St. Louis Federal Reserve. Nearly 150 persons turns out for the event.

Dr. Ron House, president of John A. Logan College, welcomed business and educational leaders from throughout Southern Illinois to the event. House was introduced by Craig Rogers, publisher of The Southern Illinoisan, who voiced his appreciation the College hosting the event.

“It was great to see so many leaders from throughout our region gathered at the College today,” House said.

William R. Emmons, whose areas of focus at the Federal Reserve include household balance sheets and their relationship to the broader economy, was today’s featured speaker. He also speaks and writes frequently on banking, financial markets, financial regulation, housing, the economy and other topics, and has been highlighted in publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and American Banker, and he has appeared on PBS NewsHour, Bloomberg News and other national programs.

Emmons' topic was "The Economic Outlook for Southern Illinois and the Nation.”

“This was a very strong presentation today,” said Michelle Hamilton, director of corporate training at the College’s Center for Business and Industry. “Economic forecasts are important to looking toward the future of any business.”

Emmons received a Ph.D. in finance from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
