Logan Women Beat Shawnee to Advance to District Semifinals

CARTERVILLE – The John A. Logan Lady Vols advanced to the NJCAA District 16 tournament semifinals with a 75-64 win over Shawnee. The Lady Vols will play in the semifinals at 11 a.m. Friday at Rend Lake College.
Shawnee jumped to an early 7-0 lead and led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Logan made seven triples in the second quarter to forge a 34-34 tie score at the half. Mariah Donnelson had four treys while Destiny Cozart had three.
Logan, 16-12, scored the first six points of the second half and never trailed again although the Saints got to within one at 61-60 in the fourth quarter but could not get closer. The Vols made 22-of-26 free throws in the second half to seal the win.
Tiuanna Watkins led Logan with 19 points while Donelson had 18, Ariel Crump scored 14, and Cozart chipped in 11. Shawnee was led by Lee Grubs with 20 points while Takena Taylor had 17 and Lanecion Soward added 14.
