Logan’s Watkins Leads Nation in Scoring
November 30, 2016
CARTERVILLE–Tiaunna Watkins of the John A. Logan Lady Vols leads the nation in scoring with an average of 23.6 points per game.
In statistics posted by the NJCAA, Watkins holds a narrow lead over All-American Shalla Dobbins of Wabash Valley who averages 23.4 points per game. Both players play in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
Watkins, who missed the last game with a concussion, is expected to be in the lineup when the Lady Vols play at Rend Lake on Wednesday (Nov.30) at 5:30 p.m.
“Tiaunna is a good scorer,” said Lady Vols head coach Amanda Shelby. “She can hit the three and score close at the basket. In tight games we just sort of have everybody get out of the way and let her score.”
Watkins shoots 35% from the field and 78% from the free-throw line. The next home game for the Lady Vols will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Kaskaskia.
