John A. Logan College (JALC) students step up to make a difference for their community. On August 6, 2016 parents and children lined up for the 8th annual Black Diamond Backpack giveaway. Over 1500 backpacks were filled with school supplies, but it does not stop there. Krispy Kreme donuts were given out, meals supplied, dental cleanings, haircuts, Salvation Army handed out lunch boxes and several other booths for free help to community students and parents. John A. Logan College’s Logan Defenders (Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Team) and YODA Computer Club (Your Operator’s Defending Assets) helped for their second year giving online safety tips, talking about cyber-bullying, and showing the community some of the things that are made possible by technology. This year JALC faculty and staff members, Vice-President Melanie Pecord, Dean Stephanie Hartford, Business Department Chair Lora Hines, Professor Mark Rogers and CIS Instructor Kylee Williams, joined these students.
