SIU to Offer Course on the Campus of JALC
August 8, 2016
John A. Logan College President Dr. Ron House along with SIU President Dr. Randy Dunn and SIUC Chancellor Dr. Brad Colwell are pleased to announce that Southern Illinois University will be offering a 300 level management class, TRM 322, on the campus of John A. Logan College this fall. This marks the first time in the nearly 50 year history of John A. Logan College that SIU has offered a course on the Carterville campus.
Technical Recourse Management (TRM) 322, Labor-Management Relations, taught by Ed Workman will meet Thursdays on the Carterville campus of JALC from 6:00 PM to 8:50PM beginning August 25 in the Workforce Education Building at JALC. Students will learn the basic concepts and techniques of modern labor relations. Throughout the semester students will learn the concepts of labor history, labor law, unions, labor contracts, collective bargaining processes, and grievance and arbitration procedures.
According to House, the course will not only be beneficial to current students, but also to area businesses.
“We feel that this course will appeal to both the student that plans to transfer to SIU and to area business people that would like to learn more about labor negotiations and relations.”
Dr. Mandara Savage, Executive Director of SIU Extended Campus, agrees.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to extend the four walls of our university. It’s our belief that any opportunity to extend the educational resources of our campus is an opportunity we should welcome—especially in this case.”
House is very pleased with the across the board effort by both institutions to get this in place, and he is hopeful that this will lead to more classes in the future.
“This is the result of a lot of hard work by faculty and staff both here and at SIU, and I am very appreciative of President Dunn, Chancellor Colwell and their staffs for their effort and cooperation.” said House. “I could not be more pleased that we are going to be able to offer this course for our students, and I feel that this is just the beginning and that this partnership will continue to evolve.”
