SCOTTSBORO, ALA. – Putting together their best scores of the early season, the John A. Logan College men’s golf team moved up a spot from third to second place out of nine teams Friday in the Spring Fling tournament at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro, Ala.
The Volunteers posted an 18-hole round of 294, which was 17 strokes better than Thursday’s total of 311. Logan now has a combined two-day total of 605. They are just three strokes back of Copiah-Lincoln, Mississippi, who stands at 602.
Top individual performer for the Vols Friday was Hunter York. The freshman fired a 72. Freshman Nick Woolard and sophomore Kody Rendleman were one stroke behind him at 73. Sophomore Neal Northcott turned in a 76 and sophomore Austin Grote fell back a bit with a round of 80.
“Obviously, we’re playing much better,” said JALC head coach Tom Ferris. “Hopefully, we can put together another good round like this tomorrow and pull out a tournament win. That would be a good finish to our week of competition.”
