OLNEY - Tiaunna Watkins accounted for a team-high 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while teammate McKena Miller notched 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the John A. Logan College women's basketball team to a 75-62 road win at Olney Saturday evening.
With the victory, the Vols improve to 13-2 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and to 20-4 overall. The Blue Knights fall to 9-5 in the league and to 14-12 overall.
Logan's 20 wins is the most since 2011, the same year the Vols advanced to the National tournament.
"That win total was certainly one of our goals at the start of the season," said JALC first-year head coach Amanda Shelby. "Hopefully, we can reach a couple more of our goals, which includes a conference championship and a long postseason run."
Logan was beastly on the boards at Olney, yanking down a stunning 54 rebounds compared to only 28 by the Knights.
"We are a good rebounding team, but that's pretty special," Shelby said.
Ariel Crump joined Watkins and Miller in double figures with 12. Haley Darnell added nine. Gabby Sanders contributed eight. Kaili Bacon dropped in seven and Ternaecia Ashley netted four.
The Vols return to action Wednesday when they will host Lindenwood-Belleville in a 5 p.m. contest.
