Logan Media Services

CARTERVILLE – The Student Success Center at John A. Logan College recently held an open house to kick off the spring semester and invite students and staff to learn about the services it offers to help students succeed.  The center houses the TRiO Program, a federally funded grant aimed at helping at-risk college students, Disability Support Services, and a campus tutoring program.

“We like to have an open house every semester to make sure students get the opportunity to see what services are available through this department,” said Carolyn Gallegly, director of the Student Success Center.  “We want them to actually see the physical space where the services are provided and meet our staff members so they will feel comfortable coming in when they need us.  The mission of our office is student success.  We’re here to help students overcome obstacles and give them the assistance they need to reach their academic goals.”

Gallegly said she was pleased that along with students, faculty and staff members attended the open house as well.

“We always invite instructors and staff to come and learn about any services we may have added or changes we’ve made,” she said.  “We want to support the faculty in any way we can because we think the students benefit when we all work together to help them achieve success.”

Gallegly said students who couldn’t attend the open house are still welcome to come and find out about the recourses the center provides.

“I encourage any students interested in our programs to come to the center or visit our Web site to get more information,” she said.  “We are always happy to answer questions and explain how our programs and services can be beneficial to them.”

Along with its three main programs, the Student Success Center conducts educational workshops throughout the year and also provides crisis counseling to students.  The center is located in C219 and office hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
