CARTERVILLE – Former John A. Logan College standout basketball player, Lazeric Jones, played well in a reserve role for the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday evening in an NBA preseason game.
The Chicago native, who led the Vols to a Great Rivers Athletic Conference championship in 2010, scored five points with two rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes of play in a win over the Houston Rockets. Moreover, Jones hit two free throws with 13 seconds left in the game to secrure the 92-89 win.
Jones transferred from Logan to UCLA, where he served as team captain as a senior in 2012. He has played the last couple of years professionally overseas and had a short stint with the summer league team of the Chicago Bulls last year.
“It was good to see Lazeric do well last night,” said Vols head coach Kyle Smithpeters. “He is the consummate pro and I hope the Grizzlies will give him a chance to show what he can do. He has certainly paid his dues and has shown that he can compete at the highest level.”
