MARION - The John A. Logan College men's golf team placed first in its own fall invitational at Kokopelli Golf Course Monday with a two-day combined score of 594, beating out second-place Vincennes (601) by seven strokes. Rend Lake was third at 609, and Lincoln Trail was fourth at 680.

The Vols were led by freshmen Nick Woolard and Hunter York as the duo tied for second-best individual score at 148. Woolard fired rounds of 71 and 77, while York was more consistent with two rounds of 74.

Sophomore Kody Rendleman of Murphysboro (75, 74) and Neal Northcott of Carmi (73, 76) tied for fourth at 149. Sophomore Daniel Corcho of Carbondale finished at 157 (80, 77). Freshman Landon Vaughan of McLeansboro and Austin Grote of Hoyleton competed as individuals as their scores did not count toward the team score. Vaughan finished at 152 (70, 82), while Grote checked in at 157 (71, 86).

"Winning a tournament is always good, especially when it's at home and your are not playing your best," said veteran Logan head coach Tom Ferris.  "I am proud of the guys for grinding it out these last two days. We continue to show improvement as the fall season moves forward. I think this group has the potential to be very solid by next spring."

"We are a diverse learning and teaching community committed to improving individual life and society through high-quality, accessible educational programs and engaged learning opportunities."
