CARTERVILLE – The Sixth Annual Faculty Showcase is set for 2 to 4 p.m. this Sunday in O’Neil Auditorium on the John A. Logan College campus.

Music instructor and event organizer, Rebecca Newburn, said the competition began as a once-a-semester event, but has since been changed to once a year.

“Participation varies, as you can imagine, due to instructors’ schedules and personal conflicts,” Newburn said. “This year, we have three instructors performing. Joe Palermo will be on guitar; Tammy Kirk-piccolo; and Paul Intravaia-percussion. There will also be artwork displayed by Drew Tucker.”

The showcase is the only fundraiser used to support the Instrumental Musician Scholarship at JALC. Logan currently offers music scholarships for vocal and piano students. The Instrumental Musician Scholarship is designed to award a student studying other instruments.

Admission to the event is free with a donation accepted for the scholarship.

“Attendance has increased over the past few years, and we are hoping that even more people attend this year,” Newburn said. “Additionally, the JALC Choral Ensemble hosts a reception immediately following the showcase.”
