WEST FRANKFORT – The John A. Logan College men’s golf team got the fall season started on the right foot with a 12-stroke victory over host, Rend Lake, Friday, Sept. 4 in the Region 24 Preview Tournament at Franklin County Country Club in West Frankfort.

The Volunteers shot rounds of 287 and 288 for a combined score of 575, while the Warriors turned in rounds of 288 and 299 for a combined score of 587.

Finishing third was Parkland at 592. Mineral Area was fourth at 593. Vincennes was fifth at 609 and Lincoln Trail was sixth at 631.

Three Logan players tied for fifth place in individual scores. Kody Rendleman of Murphysboro, Neal Northcott of Carmi and Nick Woolard of Poplar Bluff, Mo. each finished at 144 covering 36 holes.

Hunter York (Decatur) followed at 145. Austin Grote of Hoyleton checked in at 148. Those scores not counted toward the team score were those of Landon Vaughan of McLeansboro (147) and Daniel Corcho of Carbondale (153).

“I thought for a first meet, the kids performed pretty well,” said Vols head coach Tom Ferris. “The heat was certainly a factor for everyone, but we stayed consistent with our scores all day long. We still have a lot of room for improvement. Overall, though, it was a good effort.”

Logan competes next weekend at the Vincennes University Invitational.
