CARTERVILLE – The John A. Logan College softball team added a power bat to its lineup for this fall with Tuesday’s announced signing of Huntsville, Ala. native, Lauren Talton.

The 5-foot-10 slugger was a Second Team All-State selection in Class 4A this past spring with Westminster Christian Academy. Talton was instrumental in leading her high school team to a 43-9 overall record and fourth-place finish at the state tournament.

“I have really enjoyed my visit here at Logan. After meeting with the coaches, it feels like home to me,” Talton said. “I just hope I can contribute to the team’s success beginning this fall.”

Logan coach Angie Jilek said she is pleased to add Talton to the roster.

“Lauren had a great spring. She was an All-Tennessee Valley and All-State performer in Alabama and her team played against some of the biggest schools in the entire state. We look for her to step in and play right away.”

Talton swatted seven home runs in batting .393 this past spring and was her team’s clean-up hitter.

“I think Lauren has the potential to hit 10-to-15 home runs with us this next school year. She has the power,” Jilek said. “In fact, I think she is capable of being one of the top players in our conference.”

Talton said she would like to pursue a degree in athletic training.

"We are a diverse learning and teaching community committed to improving individual life and society through high-quality, accessible educational programs and engaged learning opportunities."
