MESA, ARIZ. - The John A. Logan College women's golf team finished on a positive note at the four-day National Junior College Athletic Association Championship held at Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz.

The Volunteers moved up a spot to 12th with a four-day total of 1,449, slipping past Des Moines, Iowa Thursday. Logan's final-round score was 360, while Des Moines shot a 370.

Seminole State, Fla. won the title, turning in a four-day score of 1,204.

Top individual performer for Logan was once again freshman Adrian Brown of Carterville, who checked in with an 82. She finished 32nd overall out of 106 golfers with a combined score of 331.

"Adrian was our top player three of the four days," said Vols head coach Bill Glenn. "She really wanted to break 80 today, and although she didn't quite make it, she played really strong all week and I can't wait to see how that carries over to next year."

Sophomore Kirsten Faulkner of Metropolis was next in line for Logan with an 86. Her four-round total was 339, placing her in a tie for 43rd place.

Sophomore Chelsea Capel of Marion was her steady self, turning in a round of 91 Thursday to finish at 360 and tied for 63rd.

Trico High School graduate, Payton Choate, notched a 101 and finished at 419. She was 97th.

"I've said it before, but Payton's scores were in no way reflective of how well she played overall," Glenn said. "I think this experience will help make her a better player."

Glenn added that he was proud of his team.

"I saw nothing but positive attitudes all week, which was great," he said. "We were ranked 14th going into the tournament and we finished 12th, so not too bad a job."

Rend Lake finished the week in ninth place following a final-round score of 341, the best round of the week for the Warriors. Their four-day total was 1,388.

Top individual player was Ali Christian, who tied for 25th overall at 328. Her Thursday round was 81.
