CARTERVILLE – Find out everything you want to know about John A. Logan College at an event sponsored by Upsilon Pi, the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community colleges. “Logan Lowdown: Eliminating Uncertainties” will be held Friday, May 15 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 6 p.m.-8 p.m. in the Skylight Lounge, Room B48, O’Neil Auditorium, and various classrooms on campus.
“This event will provide current students and prospective students with all kinds of information about John A. Logan College,” said Lauren DeRossett of Du Quoin who serves as vice president of public relations for Upsilon Pi. “We’ll tell them what types of classes are available, what degrees are offered, and the types of support services available to help them. We’ll also let them know about all the clubs and extracurricular activities and how they can get involved.”
DeRossett said three informational sessions will be held at 9 a.m., 12 p.m., and 6 p.m. in O’Neil Auditorium. Representatives from many of the academic and career departments will be on hand to answer questions, and there will be presentations about financial aid, scholarships, library services, and other topics. Informal campus tours will also be offered.
Adrienne Barkley Giffin, director of student activities and cultural events at JALC, is the advisor for the college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter.
“The students have done a great job planning and organizing this event,” Giffin said. “They hope it will garner more interest in those who are considering attending Logan and also help the students already here to become more active and engaged in campus life.”
JALC President Dr. Mike Dreith said he appreciates the students’ efforts.
“It’s wonderful that the members of Phi Theta Kappa came up with the idea for this event,” Dreith said. “I’m very grateful for all their hard work. There aren’t many college presidents that can look to the student body to help better market a college. I’m fortunate to have their assistance, and I think it shows how talented our students are and how much they care about Logan.”
