CARTERVILLE – Elverado High School senior Cheyenne Abbadusky signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play basketball at John A. Logan College this fall for first-year Vols’ head coach Amanda Shelby.

As a junior, Abbadusky (listed as a 5-foot-8 guard/forward) was selected First Team All-Conference in the Black Diamond, averaging 14.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She was named All-Tournament at the Du Quoin Tip Off Classic and also at the Mid-Winter Classic in Chester.

As a senior, Abbadusky averaged 15 points and six rebounds per game. She also shot 65 percent from the free-throw line. For her efforts, she was named First Team South Egyptian Conference and All-Tournament once again at the Du Quoin Tip Off Classic.

First-year Logan head coach Amanda Shelby said she got a call from Falcons head coach Rasheeda Love, a JALC Hall of Fame athlete, inviting her to come and watch Abbadusky play.

“I did and was impressed,” Shelby said. “There’s always an adjustment for high school players to make at the college level no matter where you’re from, but Cheyenne is a hard worker and has been taught well by Rasheeda. I think she will do just fine with us.”

Shelby said Abbadusky played multiple positions with Elverado, but will likely settle in as a perimeter player with the Vols.

Love was confident Abbadusky will contribute for Logan.

“It’s very exciting to see one of my former players sign on to play college ball, especially at Logan,” she said. “This will be a great opportunity for her both academically and athletically. Cheyenne is a natural athlete. She just has to learn the pace of the college game and she will be fine.”

Abbadusky said she is ready for the challenge.

“I can’t even put into words how excited I am,” the senior said. “This is something I’ve been working for the last four years. It means everything to me. I can’t wait to get started.”
