CARTERVILLE – John A. Logan College hosted its annual fall showcase for area high school seniors on Saturday.

There were 55 players in all that turned out for the event from five different states, including Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee and Missouri. The biggest portion of those players (44) were from the Land of Lincoln.

“The showcase is a good opportunity for kids to demonstrate their talents and to get a look at our campus,” said JALC assistant baseball coach Kyle Surprenant. “In fact, 22 of the 55 players reside within our district. We have signed six players from these showcases the past two years.”

Participants ran 60-yard sprints; threw from the outfield and infield; and took batting practice. Catchers threw the ball down to second base and pitchers threw bullpen sessions.

“This is an event we will continue to do and maybe start to incorporate a controlled scrimmage,” Surprenant said.
