CARTERVILLE – Last month, three John A. Logan College sports teams (women’s golf, softball and volleyball) were recognized for their academic prowess by the National Junior College Athletic Association. All grade-point averages were well above 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Moreover, several individual athletes were honored, including baseball’s Tyler McGowan and golf’s Jack Wilson who recorded perfect GPAs.

This week, it’s been learned that JALC also compiled the second-best academic record among 19 schools who are members of Region 24.

Only Parkland College in Champaign had more (15) student-athletes earn national academic awards. Logan and Kaskaskia College tied for second with 10, followed by Lincoln Land, Olney, Lake Land, John Wood, Lincoln, Southwestern Illinois, Danville, Heartland, Illinois Central, Rend Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln Trail, Southeastern Illinois, Spoon River, Wabash Valley and Shawnee.
