Digital Media Technology Tenure-Track Faculty (Fall 2022)

Description:

Position Summary: John A. Logan College is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Digital Media Technology to begin Fall 2022. The College is searching for a dedicated instructor who fosters and promotes a collegial atmosphere and places student learning and success as top priorities. Successful candidates will be responsible for teaching lecture and/or laboratory courses within the current Graphic Design program and leading the program’s transition into a cutting-edge, career and technical education Digital Media Technology program that combines creativity and innovative technologies. The desire is to develop future opportunities for students by articulating the program with baccalaureate transfer options. Expertise in the following areas is necessary: commercial digital illustration, layout and design, typography, photography, digital photo manipulation, commercial web design, 3D modeling, 3D animation, media management, social media marketing and design, writing and editing, audio and visual recording/editing, and basic game design. The instructor must be available to teach classes during the day and evenings, as needed.

Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August through May) and are required to teach a minimum of 15 credit hours and serve eight office hours per week for student consultation in fall and spring semesters. Additional teaching opportunities with compensation may be available in the summer semester. Full-time instructors are provided private offices and have access to excellent support services.

Specific Job Duties: 

  • To instruct students in the facts and skills pertaining to assigned courses
  • To conduct classes as scheduled
  • To distribute to all students a course syllabus that covers the class requirements, grading procedure, attendance requirements, and course objectives
  • To update curriculum, prepare outlines, and select textbooks
  • To utilize instructional technology for online learning and record-keeping
  • To submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates
  • To inform students of educational and occupational opportunities
  • To consider the needs of the students and assist them by seeking help from other college services
  • To establish partnerships and dual credit opportunities with district high schools
  • To serve as the lead instructor for digital media technology program and courses
  • To maintain program currency through continual course development, updating degree/certificates, and creating new degrees/certificates as needed
  • To stay current in the field and with instructional practices by participating in professional development
  • To recruit students into the Digital Media Technology program
  • To assist in identifying adjunct faculty and working with them to make sure instructional objectives are being met
  • Prepare and maintain efficient program budget for instruction, supplies, and equipment
  • Maintain safe and organized lab, including accurate control of tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Engage business and industry partners and work with an advisory committee to assure program meets industry needs
  • Serve as club advisor in support of the Digital Media Technology program
  • Serve as academic advisor for the Digital Media Technology program
  • To participate on college committee(s)
  • To participate in accreditation, assessment activities, and program review
  • To perform other duties as outlined in the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • To represent the College credibly with respect to any of its activities, and observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the College

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in digital media or related technical fields like graphic design, integrated design and media, new media design, cinema, or photography
  • Five years of experience in professional media design and production

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in graphic design, integrated design and media, new media design, cinema, photography, or similar program
  • College or university teaching experience in applied digital media, commercial graphic design, animation, media, and/or video/photography
  • Experience in the following areas: professional design, 3D modeling, animation, web design, mobile design, interactive design, printing, typography, photography, audio/visual production, and video game design
