Welcome to the John A. Logan College Virtual Campus.

The addition of new course formats, including instruction over the Internet, demonstrates the College's commitment to flexibility in educational delivery and to better serving the needs of students. The number of distance education classes we offer continues to grow. Students with Internet access will increasingly find more classes and course material available on the World Wide Web. Other methodologies for teaching, described below, include telecourses and interactive video.

World Wide Web courses are designed with interactivity in mind, giving students a dynamic and engaging learning environment. Students may apply for admission to the College over the Internet; they may also register for distance learning courses in the same manner. Payment for courses may be made over the Internet via a secure server. View current World Wide Web class offerings

Telecourses have been part of the John A. Logan College learning environment for many years. Students receive "telecourse packets" which include videotapes of lesson programs in addition to other self-paced material. Students who can set goals and feel secure outside the traditional classroom setting generally do well with telecourses. View current Telecourse class offerings

Interactive Video classes utilize advanced video and communications technology to allow students in two or more classrooms at distant locations to interact as if they were in one room together. John A. Logan College maintains interactive video classrooms in West Frankfort, DuQuoin, Marion, Elverado and on the Carterville campus. The diverse locations of these classrooms throughout the College district give students the opportunity to take classes without leaving their own communities. The John A. Logan College Virtual Campus provides you with the opportunity to engage in guided learning at a distance. This is rapidly becoming a necessity for continuing career development as well as the pursuit of lifelong learning.

Why should I take distance learning classes? Learning can be more accessible than ever before. Your geographic location is not a factor in taking many of the courses offered via distance learning. Some courses may require students to visit the campus one or more times, while other courses can be taken without a physical presence on the campus. Additionally, web courses and telecourses allow students to study and complete coursework at times that best fit their own schedules. No matter what mode of learning you choose, you will have an instructor who will be available for guidance or answering questions. Students at a distance may contact instructors via telephone or e-mail.

How are distance learning courses different from other courses? Distance learning courses are academically equivalent to their on-campus counterparts. Students receive the same high quality instruction they would expect. The only difference is in the mode of instructional delivery. Depending on your course selection, your studies may be done at home, work, an interactive video site, or in one of the John A. Logan College computer labs. While many courses are self-paced, instructors expect regular participation and contact. Some courses will require one or more visits to the campus for proctored exams or other class requirements. For more information about particular course requirements, please review the course syllabus.
