January 3, 2006

Dear Student,

Welcome to online instruction at John A. Logan College !

You will be using a web-based program called Blackboard to access your online class and to communicate with your instructor.  If you have not previously taken the “Orientation to Blackboard” course, I would strongly advise you to do so.  Not only is this orientation free, but students who pass the orientation, and have not received credit for it previously, can receive one-half hour of free college credit.  (You may retake the test as often as necessary in order to pass.)  This orientation provides instruction on how to create an account in Blackboard.  The orientation is available through January 31, 2006.  For more information, please go to: <http://www.jalc.edu/orientation.html>.

To enroll in your class, please use the same web address listed above for instructions.  Please be aware, that in most cases, your online class will not be available to access until Tuesday, January 17, 2006.  The “Orientation to Blackboard” course is available to access immediately.  If you have used Blackboard in previous semesters, do not set up a new account.  Please use the same account that you previously created.  If you have forgotten your account information or have difficulties enrolling in your class, please call (618) 985-2828, ext. 8278, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and we will give you that information.

I hope your online class is a valuable addition to your educational experience at John A. Logan College .  Have a great fall semester!

Sincerely,

Steve McLaughlin
Distance Learning and Instructional Coordinator
