Evangeline “Vangie” Chugh serves as a basic skills specialist in math and as an academic advisor in the SSC. She has worked full-time in that capacity since 1982. When she first came to the College in 1979, she worked part-time as a basic skills tutor and was a term faculty member, teaching math and Spanish. She assists in training the peer tutors and is an active sponsor of the International Club and the T-PLUS Club. She has served on Logan’s International Education Committee since its inception in 1986.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Vangie earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in math education from the University of Puerto Rico. She came to the U.S. in the fall of 1967 to do advanced graduate work in math education at Penn State University. She met her husband, Yoginder Chugh, while attending PSU. Together, they moved to southern Illinois in 1977 when he took a position at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Vangie and her husband reside in Murphysboro. They have three grown daughters, Anjeli, Shilee, and Polly and four grandchildren – Joshua, Kaleb, Sammy, and Rebecca. Vangie loves to travel and see new places. She has visited many international locations. She also enjoys playing the piano, listening to music, and swimming at the College’s Community Health Education Complex.
