Capitol Day - by Tish Shaw (GED Counselor)
Danny Clerk speaks at the State Capitol.

In April, hundreds of students, teachers and administrators from adult education programs across the state of Illinois gathered in Springfield for Capitol Awareness Day. In an effort to learn more about the legislative process and how it effects their education, all students attending GED classes through John A. Logan College were encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to travel to the State Capitol Building. Students were able to tour the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum while in Springfield, in addition to participating in the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association (IACEA) Rally held within the Capitol Building. It was a day for those who have been impacted by the services that adult education programs offer to come together and form one voice in the ear of our senators and representatives, reminding them of the importance of such programs. Many speakers from adult education programs statewide shared their experiences, one of which was a GED graduate from the John A. Logan Adult Education Program. Danny Clerk, gave a excellent motivational speech reminding all students of adult education that it is possible to accomplish the goal of obtaining a GED.
